| Epilog |
Although here I shall conclude this volume of "Mexico Chronicles," there are more adventures to be recorded, but they must follow at some other time. Perhaps there will be "Mexico Chronicles, Vol. II," but this particular adventure with Ed and Joseph ended in San Blas in April of 1974. I stayed on in San Blas for a few more weeks before packing it in myself and taking the train back to Mexicali and returning to the good old USA.
I crossed the border to Calexico and coincidentally there was a Greyhound leaving immediately for San Diego, it fit my needs perfectly and I scrambled to catch it. Upon arriving at the San Diego bus terminal I ordered lunch, cheeseburger and french fries along with a Budweiser beer. They were simply terrific. It was nice to be back home.
Before returning back to Mammoth I did visit Joseph at Blythe. We enjoyed the springtime desert along the Colorado river, water skiing and fishing. Then I returned to Mammoth to resume "normal life," immediately getting a place and going right back to work, the timing turned out perfect. It was good to see Ed again and we caught up on what had transpired on the remainder of our Mexico adventure. When the final financial tally was made, I had spent just over $700 on the trip. Lets see, I left Mammoth in January and returned in May not bad I guess, less than $200 a month. My son Kenneth came to live with me that summer and stayed until going into the Navy after high school in 81. I guess overall, the extended trip to Mexico was meant to be for now being a single parent, my life changed dramatically. It would be six more years before I would have the chance to visit Mexico again. And up the time of this writing, (1996) I have not made any visits of this duration to Mexico, or anywhere else for that matter. However, although shorter, there were many other Mexico trips which (God willing) will be properly chronicled later.
